Acapulco has long been known for its fabulous beaches--nearly 20 miles of them--each with its own distinct personality, each beautiful in its own way. (In fact, it is the beauty of Acapulco's beaches, with their fine golden and white sands and majestic swaying palms, that has led to many classic Hollywood movies being filmed along these shores.) Whether visitors long for calm surf, perfect for swimming and water sports, or stronger waves, ideal for surfers, there is an Acapulco beach that fits the bill.
These are some of the best places to strike up a conversation with a friendly Acapulqueno, sample authentic regional cuisine from a seaside eatery, or simply relax and let another glorious Acapulco day drift by. Following are some of the most popular beaches in Acapulco:
* Caleta: Located on the bay's westernmost point is the beach frequented most by the locals. A small beach with calm waters and beautiful, powdery sand, Caleta is a great place to swim and sunbathe.

Hornos
Hornos: An extensive beach with white sands and quiet surf located in the center of town, Hornos is ideal for watersports of all kinds. Visitors who opt for an evening stroll along Hornos will be delighted with the variety of typical Mexican restaurants along the shore, creating a lively setting that should not be missed.

Condesa
La Condesa: Widely considered the most fun beach in town, this is the place to be and be seen. La Condesa is located in the heart of the Zona Dorada (Golden Zone) between the Continental Plaza and the El Presidente hotels. Here, watersports abound, including water-skiing, windsurfing, jet-skiing, sailboating and parasailing. Thrill-seekers will want to try out La Condesa's newest attraction: bungee jumping! These activities, combined with satiny white sands and plentiful restaurants, make La Condesa a favorite with visitors.

Icacos
Icacos: Located on the easternmost point of the bay, Icacos has very moderate waves--perfect for families. Active types can take part in water-skiing, windsurfing, snorkeling, sailing, paragliding and beach volleyball.
|
Revolcadero
Revolcadero: With its white, powdery sand and shady palm trees, this may be the most beautiful beach in Acapulco. Its wild surf makes it an ideal spot for surfers. Revolcadero is reached via a panoramic highway from which the beauty of Acapulco Bay can be fully appreciated.
Puerto Marques: This is a very popular beach, ideal for windsurfing and scuba diving. It is also home to several Mexican restaurants.
There are two beaches located just 10 minutes from Acapulco--and well worth the trip:
Pie de la Cuesta: Ten miles northwest of Acapulco, a long strip of land separates the Pacific Ocean from the mangrove and Laguna Coyuca. This is the place for horseback riding and viewing glorious sunsets. Visitors come here to grab a hammock, order a coconut gin, relax and enjoy the view.
Isla la Roqueta: Located just 10 minutes from Playa Caleta by boat. Boats depart for the island all day from both Playa Caleta and a small dock beside the Magico Mundo aquarium, as does a glass-bottom boat cruise. Isla la Roqueta is home to a hilltop lighthouse from which there is a panoramic view of the bay. This is a great place for hiking, sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling. For a change of pace, visit the island's zoo.
